Public and private from first to second degree represents 60 000 students and 500 establishments :
 418 kindergartens and primary schools, 31 553 pupils (of which 21 are private with 2 943 pupils),

In 2001, 80.5% of candidates achieved their "diplôme national du brevet" , for colleges, 84.9% for vocational exams and 83.3% for technological exams.
