| THE CHARENTE IN ITS REGION |
The Poitou-Charentes Region is made up of 4 Departments: Charente, Charente Maritime, Deux-Sèvres, and Vienne.
The population of Charente represents 1/5 of the Poitou-Charente population and has a density of 57 inhabitants per Km², similar to that of Vienne and Deux-Sèvres; only Charente Maritime reaches 81 inhabitants per Km², due primarily to the attraction of the coast and the islands.

On the North-South Atlantic axis, the N10 crosses the region through Châtellerault, Poitiers and Angoulême, with numerous 4-lane sections, the A 10 motorway goes through Poitiers, Niort and Saintes. |

On the East-West axis, the various Central Europe - Atlantic road link projects are designed to improve the roadways and link the Atlantic Coast to Central Europe.

The TGV stops at the stations of the four capitals of the Department, Poitiers, Angoulême, Niort and La Rochelle.

The autonomous port of La Rochelle is the only deep-water port on the French Atlantic coast. It is France’s 8th biggest port. |
