BRIEF HISTORY
Created on the 4th February 1987, in the form of a syndicate of villages and towns, it groups together 5 authorities. On the 15th December 1997, the towns of Brie, Jauldes and Mornac joined the syndicate, which was recognised, a year later, as a “Pays” (region) within the law for regional development known as the “Pasqua Law” (Loi Pasqua). In 2002, according to the provisions of the Voynet Law, the two towns belonging to the Communauté d'Agglomération du Grand Angoulême, or Grand Angouleme Urban Community (Gond Pontouvre et St Saint Yrieix) are removed from the District.

This territory now includes the Braconne-Charente munity of towns, and one isolated town (Mornac).
ACTIONS
The Country intervenes with financial partners, it signs rural contracts with the region and development contracts with the Department. It thus acts as a co-ordinator with instigators of local projects, participating in the financing of towns and inter-town development:
• A crèche in 1989
• an educational bus in 1999

As a precursor to rambling in the department, the countries of the Entre Touvre and the Charente prepared and signposted the first walking paths in 1990/91 and continued the development of circuits until 1999.They have created picnic areas, maps, signposts and walking guides.

In 1998, then in 1999/2001, a plan was implemented for employment creation. The maintenance of the Agence was the project : fountains and stone washing fountains; the cleaning and clearing of paths, etc...

It also finances cultural and sporting projects :
• Educational concerts in 1993
• Numerous events on the theme of mediaeval Charente (1999/200)
• Operation of the historical Grande Fosse site in the Braconne forest
• Construction of a social and cultural centre in 2000
• Territorial development for the young and associations in 2001
• A tree/leisure park in 1993
• A go-cart track in 1999 and the acquisition of go-carts in 2000/2001
• Multisport workshops in 2001
• Various cultural, sporting and leisure events

PERSPECTIVES

The country is currently studying its new Territorial Contract with the region for the 2001-2003 period.

Also, at the meeting of its “Comité syndical” (Syndicate Committee) on the 19th September the “Pays” confirmed its wish to lead the project to create a “Pays de l’Angoumois” (region of Angoumois” in co-operation with the different partners.
